Data & API

The City Safety Index is free to use, quote, query and embed — 50 cities, seven weighted criteria, every sub-score published. No key, no signup, no email gate. Attribution is the only ask.

Endpoints

JSON — /safety-index-2026.json
The whole index with metadata, weights, per-city sub-scores, base score, advisory adjustment, total, joint-rank flag, and links to each city's guide and badge. CORS is open, so it can be fetched from a browser.
CSV — /safety-index-2026.csv
The same data as a spreadsheet: rank, city, country, region, seven sub-scores, base score, adjustment, total, US advisory. This is the file the Dataset schema points at.
Badge — /badge/<city>.svg
A self-contained SVG showing a city's score and rank, coloured by risk band. No JavaScript, no tracking pixel, cached hard.

Filters, on the JSON endpoint only: ?city=amsterdam, ?country=Japan, ?region=Europe. City accepts either the display name or the slug.

Embeddable badges

Copy one line. The wrapping link is what makes the badge a citation rather than a decoration — please keep it, and the badge stays free to use anywhere, commercial or not.

Any of the 50 cities works — swap the slug, which is the city name lowercased with hyphens (new-york, mexico-city). Every slug is in the JSON.

Licence and attribution

Everything here is CC BY 4.0: use it commercially, republish it, build on it. The one condition is credit — “TripGuards City Safety Index 2026.1” with a link to the index page.

Scores are frozen per edition and the advisory column was last re-verified on 2026-08-22. If you need a regional cut, a comparison against another ranking, or a quote for a story, write to firat@tripguards.com — those are free too.

How the scores are built, what each weight means and how joint ranks work is documented on the methodology page.
